The current data repository provides a glimpse of an ongoing effort to review several precipitation partitioning studies focused on Neotropical forests. This first version focuses on describing the relationship between forest structure, expressed in terms of leaf area index (LAI) or plant area index (PAI), with net precipitation or throughfall estimates when data is available, and the canopy storage capacity (Sc). All data is contained in the shape file for its use in GIS, and the data provided was extracted manually from the specified references. When specific data, such as mean annual temperature, LAI, or PAI, were not available, we searched for additional information from the same sites. Finally, when the authors did not provide the Sc, we proceeded to estimate it using the procedure described by Loescher et al. (2002) when the relationship between rainfall (also called gross precipitation) and throughfall or net precipitation was available. Each site was classified according to the Holdridge Life Zone classification system (Holdridge and Tosi, 1967) using the mean annual temperature (MAT) as a proxy of the "biotemperature" used in the system and the mean annual precipitation (MAP) reported for each location.
